No Happy Songs

Played open mic tonight with Craig. It was good times. Craig brought a minimal drum set, and we played right after the Magic tragically lost. The crowd needed comforting, and I was there for them…

Someone asked me for a happy song, and I replied: “I’m a folk singer; I don’t have any happy songs. I can sing something energetic, though.”

Happiness is always laced with the fear of losing it. So, I am thankful, more than anything. I am thankful for the complex, honest love I receive from my family, friends, fans, and even strangers. I am thankful for the opportunity to friend those who are grappling with reality. I can understand that.

“As if the search to live honestly is all that anyone needs, no matter if you find it.” – Tracy Chapman, “At This Point in My Life”
